The chronicled history of Seattle began in the middle of the 20th century with the arrival of European settlers and massive deforestation took place on the site of the present city. But even today wood processing has still retained its importance in the economy of the city, but, of course, receded into the background in comparison with such industries as electronics, shipbuilding and of course the computer and technology arena. It is not surprising that many people move to Seattle to make, improve or change their careers.

The city is the pad for the headquarters of many well-known companies which are offering exciting new opportunities to people. A prime example of this is that thanks to the Boeing Company, aerospace is one of the key industries in the region of Seattle. In recent years, more than 80 thousand people, including 7000 engineers have been working at this company in Seattle and at sites around Washington State. And you thought it was all trees. In the Northern suburb of Seattle, Everett city has a factory where Boeing-787 airliners are built. It is also worth noting that more than 3,000 companies are connected with suppliers for the Boeing operation in the region. So whether you are in construction, engineering, transport, logistics, import/export, communications and a whole host of other jobs then there is a place here for you.

Microsoft is also based in Seattle. This world-renowned computer giant employs more than 35 thousand people. In fact the total number of employees engaged in companies related to the information technology sector in the Greater Seattle area is more than 186,000 people. But before you go thinking that IT and panes are all they do here then I'm happy to tell you that among the other important sectors of the city are healthcare, which employs 96,000 people, as don't forget other world-famous companies such as Starbucks and Amazon, who are all based in Seattle.

Seattle residents often praise the climate of the city. The mountains that surround the region protect Seattle from Pacific storms and limit the influence of cold arctic winds meaning that the summer is warm, but not hot with little rain and an average temperature in July of 75 °F. This may seem surprising, but such climate is good enough for grapes. About 35 wineries operate in and around the city. As for the winter it is not very cold here, frosts occur about 15 days a year and the temperature rarely drops below 23 °F. So make your future brighter and come to Seattle the Emerald City.
